In recent years there has been an explosion of books and scholarly article concerning Ayn Rand and her ideas. This makes it difficult to keep up since new material is constantly coming on to the market.

Anthem

We the Living

Rand's first novel explores the destructive nature of living under communism. A semi-autobiographical novel.

The Fountainhead

This novel explores the nature of collectivism, not on society, on in man's soul. 

Atlas Shrugged

A massive novel which explores what happens to a society when collectivism is allowed to get the upper hand. The most philosophical of her novels but also the one that continues to sell the most.

Night of January 15

A play by Rand which is the least philosophical of all her works.

Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal

A collection of essays by Rand and other writers from her newsletter dealing with the nature of capitalism in a free society.

For the New Intellectual

The New Left (1971)

A collection of essays from Randıs newsletter dealing with the political left. This has been reprinted as The Return to the Primitive by Randıs heir Leonard Peikoff. Peikoff has the annoying habit of adding his own material, and that of others to Randıs books and reissuing them. Often the new material is not up  to Rand's intellectual standards.

Barbara Branden has compiled the definitive biography of Rand in this book.

The Philosophical Thought of Ayn Rand

Douglas Den Uyl and Douglas Rasmussen edited this collection of essays on Rand's philosophy.

Is Objectivism a Religion?

This work by psychologist Albert Ellis appears to be more of one long sneer, ridiculing, attacking and insulting Rand but rarely grappling with real issues.

It Usually Begins with Ayn Rand?

Jerome Tuccille wrote this satirical book about the origins of the modern libertarian movement. Unfortunately too many uninformed scholars writing on Rand take the book seriously and quote Tuccilleıs fiction as fact.

The Ayn Rand Companion

Mimi Gladstein compiled this work. It includes a bibliography on Rand and her work, a compendium on the characters in her novels and a synopsis of each of Rand's works. Because it quickly became dated a new, but expensive, version of the book has been produce.

What Art Is

Louis Tores and Michelle Kamhi explore Rand's theory of esthetics in a more in-depth manner than Rand did herself.

Feminist Interpretations of Ayn Rand

Edited by Mimi Gladstein and Chris Sciabarra this book explores Rand and her work and its relationship to feminism in general. Essays include the critical and the supportive. An interesting collection.
