Ayn Rand Bibliography |
|
|
In recent years there has been an explosion of books and
scholarly article concerning Ayn Rand and her ideas. This makes it
difficult to keep up since new material is constantly coming on to the
market.
Works by Rand What
would a totally collectivized world be like? Rand explores the loss of
individualism and the consequences in this, her shortest and most poetic,
work.
Rand's first novel explores the destructive nature of living under
communism. A semi-autobiographical novel. This
novel explores the nature of collectivism, not on society, on in man's
soul. A
massive novel which explores what happens to a society when collectivism
is allowed to get the upper hand. The most philosophical of her novels but
also the one that continues to sell the most. A
play by Rand which is the least philosophical of all her works. A
collection of essays by Rand and other writers from her newsletter dealing
with the nature of capitalism in a free society.
Excerpts of the most philosophical parts of Rand's various novels with a
new essay by her as an introduction. A
technical look at Rand's views on the nature and theory of knowledge. Not
for the novice. A
collection of essays from Randıs newsletter dealing with the political
left. This has been reprinted as The Return to the Primitive by Randıs
heir Leonard Peikoff. Peikoff has the annoying habit of adding his own
material, and that of others to Randıs books and reissuing them. Often the
new material is not up to Rand's intellectual standards. An
outline of Rand's view on the romantic school of art. A
collection of Rand's philosophical essays published shortly after her
death. A
collection from Rand's newsletter dealing with her views on ethics. A
collection of early short stories by Rand including sections she deleted
from The Fountainhead.
During her literary career Rand wrote copious notes to herself discussing
her characters, plot lines, and the nature of her philosophy. These
journals show how her ideas evolved and how carefully she planned her
novels. A
transcription of a lecture series Rand gave privately on how to write non
fiction. A
transcription of a private lecture series Rand gave on the nature of
fiction, its main components, and how to write it. A
collection of letters from Rand spanning her life. Included are letters to
fans, responses to philosophers and a vast array of people. Covers her
work, her life and her ideas. Who is Ayn Rand? By
Nathaniel and Barbara Branden, associates of Rand, this book includes a
look at the moral revolution in Atlas Shrugged, how Objectivism applies in
psychology, and Rand's literary methods. This is followed by a short
biographical sketch of Rand.
Barbara Branden has compiled the definitive biography of Rand in this
book.
Douglas Den Uyl and Douglas Rasmussen edited this collection of essays on
Rand's philosophy. This
work by psychologist Albert Ellis appears to be more of one long sneer,
ridiculing, attacking and insulting Rand but rarely grappling with real
issues.
Jerome Tuccille wrote this satirical book about the origins of the modern
libertarian movement. Unfortunately too many uninformed scholars writing
on Rand take the book seriously and quote Tuccilleıs fiction as fact. A
religious based attack on Rand by an ultra-Calvinist. The book moves from
sneering to distorting with lightening speed. Flawed logic and absurd
interpretations of Rand fill the pages. Unfortunately trees died to
produce this work. Donna
Geiner and Theodore Kinni argue that Rand's novels had important insights
for managers, traders and entrepreneurs. This book explores those
insights. Ayn Rand meets Tom Peters. Mimi
Gladstein compiled this work. It includes a bibliography on Rand and her
work, a compendium on the characters in her novels and a synopsis of each
of Rand's works. Because it quickly became dated a new, but expensive,
version of the book has been produce. Louis
Tores and Michelle Kamhi explore Rand's theory of esthetics in a more
in-depth manner than Rand did herself.
Edited by Mimi Gladstein and Chris Sciabarra this book explores Rand and
her work and its relationship to feminism in general. Essays include the
critical and the supportive. An interesting collection.
Ronald Merrill is a fresh look at Rand and her philosophy. It explores her
initial support and then rejection of Nietzschean ideas, her conflicted
views on feminism and other subjects. Chris
Sciabarra explores the influence of Rand's exposure to Russian ideas and
how they effected her views. All
the main themes of Rand's philosophical thought are explored in this book
by philosopher Machan. Mimi
Gladstein's companion to Rand's main novel. The
Objectivist Center has produced this dramatized look at Randıs main novel.
Available in CD or tape format. This
companion to the documentary of the same name includes the text of the
documentary and hundreds of photos and illustrations exploring Randıs life
and her work. A
video of a US television show in which Rand is interviewed. Well
known US news presenter Mike Wallace interviews Rand in this video of a
late 1950's US television show. In
the early 1960s the University of Michigan produced this television show
of an interview with Rand which is now available on video tape.
Alexandra York explores the world of art from an Objectivist perspective. This
is a 20 tape lecture series by Nathaniel Branden, a former Rand associate,
on the nature of Rand's philosophy. |
