The Free Market Foundation is an independent policy research and education organisation founded in 1975 to promote the principles of limited government, economic freedom and individual liberty. Funding is received from members (corporate, organisational and individual), sponsorships and the sale of publications. Training and entrepreneurship development is provided in co-operation with the Foundation for Economic and Business Development

 


The South African Institute of Race Relations stands for constitutional and economic liberalism. By this we mean a society based on: Respect for individual rights, the rule of just law, democratic governance, limited in scope but effective in impact, free enterprise, the creation of opportunities for the poor, racial goodwill. We work to promote each of these principles through for instance: Research and analysis, public education, Interaction with business and others who influence public opinion.

 


The Helen Suzman Foundation promotes liberal values and solutions in South and southern Africa by (examples): Stimulating public debate on political and economic developments and speaking out if infringements of constitutional democracy occur or if progress is made in this sphere; Carrying out applied policy research so that practical policy alternatives are continuously fed into the political arena; Conducting focused political opinion research and making the results available on a non-partisan, public information basis

 


The Small Business Project (SBP) is a South African, independent, private sector, specialist support and research unit engaged in small business development. It is a registered not-for-profit Company. Funded by private donors, the Center for Development and Enterprise (CDE) was established in August 1995 to play a critical role in post-apartheid South Africa. In essence, CDE is a business-funded policy research and advocacy organisation that aims to develop policies on crucial national issues. In so doing, CDE aims to influence national policies. CDE's audience is decision makers throughout the country - those in all levels of government, business, community organisations, trade unions, NGOs and the media.


 
South African Liberal Students' Association (SALSA) is busy with issues like "Tolerance on the campus", human rights and other internal problems of the campus. SALSA is organised nationwide. The new web address is www.salsa.ac.za.
 
                               
 

IREN is a non-governmental, non-partisan organisation which promotes a pro-choice approach to free market policies and classical liberal ideas that will enable and encourage the development of Kenya, East Africa and Africa in general. IREN's vision is to help foster the creation of a free society, where individuals' choices are driven and informed by market processes, and where people rely less on government solutions to problems they can solve on their own. The Association of Democratic Alliance Councillors (ADAC) is the Councillor Summit of the Democratic Alliance (DA), the legal opposition in South Africa. ADAC  is engaged with the education of freshly elected local politicians, including the practical work in local parliament, communication, decision making and budget. The Website: www.adac.org.za.


Bythepeople.org.za is a project of the Institute for Voluntary Initiative (IVI). The IVI is a non-profit think tank aimed at promoting a greater role for private initiative in the provision of basic services such as education, security and healthcare, particularly for poor people. Private township schools and inner-city universities, corporate HIV programmes and church-run AIDS hospices, private police forces in areas like downtown Johannesburg - all of these initiatives offer an exciting glimpse of the potential of the private sector to provide solutions to our most pressing problems, and greater hope for our future.
