The
South African Institute of Race
Relations stands for constitutional and economic liberalism. By this we mean a
society based on: Respect
for individual rights, the rule of just law, democratic
governance, limited in scope but effective in impact, free
enterprise, the
creation of opportunities for the poor, racial
goodwill. We work to
promote each of these principles through for instance: Research
and analysis, public
education, Interaction
with business and others who influence public
opinion.
The
Helen Suzman Foundation

South and southern Africa by (examples): Stimulating public debate on
political and economic developments and speaking out if infringements of
constitutional democracy occur or if progress is made in this sphere; Carrying
out applied policy research so that practical policy alternatives are
continuously fed into the political arena; Conducting focused political opinion
research and making the results available on a non-partisan, public information
basis

is a project of the Institute for Voluntary Initiative (IVI). The IVI is
a non-profit think tank aimed at promoting a greater role for private initiative
in the provision of basic services such as education, security and healthcare,
particularly for poor people. Private township schools
and inner-city universities, corporate HIV programmes and church-run AIDS
hospices, private police forces in areas like downtown Johannesburg - all of
these initiatives offer an exciting glimpse of the potential of the private
sector to provide solutions to our most pressing problems, and greater hope for
our future.
