Country Profile: Tanzania

Tanzania has been spared the internal strife that has blighted many African states. However, it remains one of the poorest countries in the world, heavily reliant on foreign aid, with many of its people living below the World Bank poverty line.

The Bunge/National Assembly has 274 members, 232 members elected for a five year term in single-seat constituencies, 37 seats are allocated to women nominated by the president and five seats are allocated to members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives.
